Museums

This scientific, natural and cultural institution aims to provide visitors, simply, with knowledge about the fauna, flora and geology of the Madeira Archipelago.

In the permanent exhibition, the visitor can observe specimens of fish, birds, mammals, sea turtles, insects and other invertebrates, plants and a significant collection of rocks, minerals and marine fossils.

The Museum’s reference collections today account for over 48,000 records, representing over 110,000 specimens from the Madeira archipelago in particular and Macaronesia.

The Museum has its own staff of conservators, who maintain an important scientific activity in Macaronesia.

Two scientific publications are edited here, with a wide world distribution: the Bulletin of the Natural History Museum of Funchal and the Bocagiana.
