Ilhéu da Pontinha Viewpoint
The Fortress stands at one end of Funchal harbour, on the rock formation known as São José islet. Stairs from the pier along the Pontinha road, access this viewpoint.
A private individual who has been revitalising the site, claiming it to be the site of the first Madeiran fortification at the time of its discovery, recently gained the building.
