Braguinha

The Madeiran Braguinha is a small handmade chordophone, approximately 50 cm long, composed of 4 strings and differentiated by the fact that its scale is superimposed on the soundbox.

In former times, as this was a joyful and graceful instrument, it was highly prized by Madeira ladies and maidens.

This presents itself as an instrument of a popular character, typical of the villain, rhythmic and harmonic. In certain areas of Madeira, it is also known as machete, machetinho or machete from Braga.
