Brinquinho
This typical folklore percussion instrument is one of the most popular on the island, this one is mainly used in the Bailinho of Madeira.
The Brinquinho is composed of a cane, usually 60 to 70 cm long, which along its length has two wheels of overlapping wooden dolls and sometimes has one or two dolls at the upper end.
Dressed in their regional costumes, they carry castanets on their backs and two flattened caricas on their feet. Inside the cane there is a wire that when moved vertically, moves both the puppets and the castanets and caricas, thus producing the characteristic sound of this instrument.
