Gastronomy

Specialities

Madeira Island has varied gastronomy, which stands out for its fusion of traditional and contemporary cuisine, reminding us of a combination of flavours due to the various high-quality regional products that are made through regional specialities.

Among the most traditional dishes, we highlight the famous espetada, in laurel wood and the carne de vinho-e-alhos (wine-and-garlic meat), which is normally made during the Christmas season.

The favourite appetisers in the region are limpets and snails, which are always a good suggestion as a starter.

Madeiran gastronomy is, then, a reflection of our culture and the history of our people.
