Farmácia Portuguesa

The Farmácia Portuguesa (Portuguese Pharmacy) is one of the most emblematic establishments of the city of Funchal, largely because it is situated in a famous building in the Historic Centre of the Sé. The pharmacy was founded in 1917 by António Andrade Dionísio better known as “Andrade”. Continued in the family until recently, being the owner the founder’s great-granddaughter, technical director of the establishment until the sale took place.

Housed in a classified building, the Framácia Portuguesa (Andrade) was presumably rebuilt in 1924. From an architectural point of view, it is a historic building whose façade displays the characteristic elements of the eclecticism of the first quarter of the 20th century, with an exuberant profusion of decorative elements.
