The Festivity of Our Lady of Monte is a religious event with great impact on Madeira Island, which takes place on August 14th and 15th and attracts pilgrims, devotees, and the general public to the Church of Our Lady of Monte and its surroundings.

Our Lady of Monte being the patron saint of the city, this festivity has a relevant religious component and combines this fact with a wide offer in terms of popular culture and leisure. At this festival, it is possible to watch “despiques” and “brinquinhos”.

During these days, the parish of Monte is adorned with traditional flower lanes and with food and drink stalls where it is possible to taste the traditional fennel sweets, “espetada”, bolo do caco, poncha and other regional drinks, among other delicacies of Madeiran gastronomy.
