Every year on the 1st of May, the city of Funchal pays tribute to its patron saint, Saint James the Less.
The old part of Funchal, particularly Santa Maria Street and Largo do Corpo Santo, become the scene of a special animation at this party featuring the surroundings of a typical Madeiran village. The highlight occurs with the procession in tribute to the patron Funchal.
