Nossa Senhora do Monte Church
Built on the foundations of a primitive chapel from the 15th century, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte was later enlarged due to the cult’s demands and the increase in the number of believers but destroyed in 1748 by an earthquake.
Completed in 1818, this beautiful church is the most important pilgrimage site in Madeira, with lively pilgrimages, especially on August 15th – the day of Our Lady of Monte, the patron saint of the city of Funchal.
