São João Baptista Fortress
At 111,5 metres above sea level, this fortress was finished in the second half of the 17th century. It was used as the city’s gunpowder warehouse (gunpowder that was for all the forts and towers on the island)
In the 17th century were established, in the building, learning workshops, that lasted until the 20th century.
