Funchal’s Municipal Garden

This garden is located in the centre of the city of Funchal, in the parish of Sé, having been inaugurated in 1885.

Covering an area of 8,300 m2, it is currently on the site of the former Convent of São Francisco, which, later in ruins, was used as a hospital, barracks, court and asylum until the garden was built. In it you can find, among other things, a fountain with a marble sculpture, commonly known as “Meninos” (Boys), by António Maria Ribeiro (1943), as well as some works of art scattered around the flowerbeds richly decorated with lovely flowers from the four corners of the world.
