Hospício da Princesa D. Maria Amélia Garden
Located on Avenida do Infante, opposite Santa Catarina Park, it can be visited every day and admission is free. Since 1873, this institution has been under the guardianship of the Swedish crown. Today, the motherhouse is a home for the elderly and has a crèche and a primary school.
The garden of this foundation has a romantic feeling. Is endowed with a dense and varied mass of trees, paved walks with basaltic pebbles from the coast of Madeira, highlighting the drawings made with small pebbles of limestone brought from Porto Santo and contains some corners for resting.
Despite its location next to one of Funchal’s busiest thoroughfares, this garden emanates a sense of peace and tranquillity.
